ERYKAH BADU -JUST IN TIME

Out my mind... just in time...

The Bindery

While in preparation for the GQ ipad cases, we had the opportunity to work with the amazing guys at the Wyvern Bindery. Mark and Julian, very dry sense of humour, very high sense of craftsmanship. It's this part of my job that I love, working with those that stop at nothing to making things beautiful.  Luxury is just that,  producing products and services without boundaries and without jagged edges.

Double foil blocking, gunmetal and black on the thickest art card.  There's is a dying breed, but it is something that we must try and preserve and prolong, those elements that are special, and mean something because you appreciate the expertise and skill that has gone into making something look effortless, and as close to perfect as human hands can possibly get.

New Era

Now when I got the call late last year to fly to NY to style N*E*R*D for New Era-guess you could say I was bit like a kid in a sweet shop. Culturally and universally N*E*R*D and Pharrell have changed pop and musical culture as we know it, yup thats how we roll.

Feeling like the Alchemist

I went on a mission to Andalucia to search for some Artisans that could make wallets, as it is the home of impeccable leatherwork, many luxury brands come to this valley in southern Spain. One of my favourite books is the Alchemist, the story of the young boy who is on a mission to find something.  When I looked out of the window, I remembered that magical story.

In search of 'H' on my travels around, i'm slowly collecting images of 'H' where I go...

It was day one and the hotelier was wandering through the lobby with a half cocked shot gun.  Not normally what you are greeted with when you go somewhere to stay. Then as I went up to my room, I saw what the firearm is used for......dinner!

The universal language of Graff....in Andalucia

Art of War or.....

Every year the pilgrimage to the various Military festivals ensue. For me and many others it is to research and be inspired by the unimaginable sights and objects of yesteryear.  Whether it is buttons or bikes, jeeps or tunics, there is no stone left unturned with what you might find.  I look for the beauty and the craftsmanship, in garments that have been designed to stand the test of time.  Some people however I wonder what they're motives are, some people do reenactments to remember, then there are those those that don't visit as they want to forget.  Whether it is Nazi uniforms, or those from desert storm or from various civil wars, every uniform or epaulet is available to buy.  While you peruse the fields that are crammed with tents and stalls, some things fascinate, and some things scare.  Jeeps with bullet holes, swastikas, and photos like the one below send chills down the spine. It reminds me, that it is still a reality even if it isn't happening in the country where I live.

So while I look to be inspired I also have to remember that there have been insurmountable losses, which have been caused  since the dawn of time....which I now use for reference...So I look with respect, as a great price was paid in order for me to have the freedom to be able to research....

I never knew there were any Rastas in either of the world wars, but there must

have been some as they created military issue condoms for them....jokes

Do you recognise the man in the middle?

Paris for Mens, day trois

You don't come to Paris without experiencing a bit of cool, as you

wander around you always encounter some fresh sights

The universal language of Graff!

Since La Haine, deffo in my top 10 films, Vincent Cassel

has been one of my favourite actors, his new film just out in the Capital.

Not the usual kind of sight I see in Paris

A distinguished gentleman by the name of Dean Webster of One Nine Zero Six.

A cool character that I have the pleasure of knowing for a while.

Armando Cabral shoes for SS12, the heat is definitely on...

This look is just killer, it's 30 degrees outside but for some it's always about the look

PAris for Mens day deux

Paris for Mens

Well it was that time of year again when all of the international male sartorial fraternity

descend upon the croissant capital to show off their wares.

Christopher Raeburn my trusty partner in crime (well crimes of fashion), chose this beautiful apartment off of Places des Voges for us to stay in.  And he adopts this stunning pose to show how good he is, as I had failed miserably at finding anywhere

The one and only street cool icon that is Carrie Casette Playa

Lanvin window and a cool Curtly who helped me set up the showroom

THE SHRINE

Water get no enemy....undoubtably my favourite Fela Kuti track

This was probably one of the best performances I had ever seen.

the whole audience were up and dancing within first 30 mins, otherwise. the show wasn't going to continue, the guy who played Fela was brilliant.

R.I.P WINEHOUSE

Most people had a favourite song, I remember meeting Amy before she had ever released  a thing. It was at Westbourne Studios with the directors Max and Dania and my then styling partner Franklin. We'd been called in to style her first video Stronger', there was this mouthy girl sat across from us who was so self assured I thought she's got some front, I hope she can sing. I remember it well, getting the DVF dress from Matches and her boots in town, then hearing her vocals belting out on the day of the shoot-I have to admit I was blown away, not what I had expected from the girl I'd met at Westbourne.....Big talent, big respect, and pleased that I had the pleasure of working with you, on your first outing... big moment in my career......

I'll be Dawg gone

Saw this girl last week with the coolest DMs, yellow-killer, would go so nicely with the yellow Q3 rucksack, and somehow reminded me that the coolest pooch i'd ever seen was this Alsation in LA when I was there a lil while ago. don't ask what the connection is, my mind is sometimes a bit random like that....

A living Man Declared Dead

Now I'm a big portrait photography person, but Taryn Simons' show at the Tate Modern, is on a different plane. So much innocence, so much pain, so many empty spaces, thats it, the spaces in between that's the haunting part.  It makes you realise how important our values and choices are...

Rock n Roll

I found this jacket and leather waistcoat at Spitalfields, while on my way to see the artist Tagfree. I loved the badges, and the history behind the jacket. The previous owner used to wear her boyfriends leather waistcoat which was originally covered in hundreds of metal studs on the rear.  Her hair always used to get caught in the studs, so she eventually ripped all the studs out, hence all the holes on the back of the waist coat. The badges are collectors items in themselves....
