It was April 2007, stylist Harris Elliott had spent a few months looking for a laptop case. His desire was for something simple, protective and stylish, but his search was in vain as there wasn’t one to be found. So at the end of styling a shoot, with some spare leather to hand, he created his own satchel. That was the start of the project, that particular laptop satchel caused such a reaction from colleagues and clients, It prompted Harris to develop a capsule collection. In 2009 ‘H by Harris’ was born, the early adopters were Dover Street Market and Browns, both stores selling out and reordering within months.
In the beginning Elliott studied Interior Architecture and Design, favouring shape and form, light and texture. Inspired by the likes of James Turrell, Christo and Jean Claude, Daniel Liebskind and Zaha Hadid. After graduating Harris put structural forms to one side in favour of his other passion, all things sartorial. So prior to learning the arts of creating luxury luggage, Harris worked for twelve years styling and art directing shoots and campaigns for many well known personalities and brands, some of this work he continues today.
The Harris Elliott mindset is of a Creative Director and stylist, observing and recreating is what gives him the desire to design, while his love of architecture influences new forms. Inspired by the likes of Miles Davis and Jay Electronica, by Jaques Tati and George Orwell, by culture, by militaria, by detail, by everyday people.
